FOOTBALL
Football was introduced in to the London Panathlon programme in 2008 due to a grant from the Football Foundation.
This ensured the introduction of football for Panathletes with severe learning difficulties in year 1 (2009), for Powerchair users in 2010 and for visually impaired footballers in 2011.
Panathlon has delivered various football courses in 2011 including the FA "Coaching Disabled Footballers", FA Visual Impaired footballers course and two Powerchair Football courses.
In conjunction with the Wheelchair Football Association, Panathlon is developing Powerchair Football. We have established 5 clubs around London to develop the game which delivered 46 coaching sessions this year already. The first Panathlon Powerchair Competition took place in June 2010 with the "West" team winning and then the "East" team won in June 2011. The good work to date will continue with a recent grant from the England Footballers Foundation Outreach Programme, which will develop opportunities in west London with Brentford FC Community Trust.
